Course detail

Applied Econometrics

ÚSI-2SAAEAcad. year: 2015/2016

The course is a follow-up to the microeconomics and macroeconomics from previous studies and has a synthesizing role between them with use of mathematics to the potential for subsequent computerization. The emphasis is on mathematical modelling basic economic laws. The course consists of analysis of demand and supply, income, expenses and profits, elasticity, production, utility and national income.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will obtain a special expert knowledge and skills in exact methods of description of causal relations in economic phenomena.

Prerequisites

This course assumes prior (bachelor) knowledge of macroeconomics, microeconomics and mathematics.

Co-requisites

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In order to obtain credit: attendance, completion of test with grade A - E and passing the final written examination (two hours).

Assignment:
1. The decision-making role on economic function (10 points)
2. Definition, formulation properties or interpretation of economic variables (20 points)
3. Computing (30 points)
4. Computing (40bodů)
It is desirable to have a calculator. However, it is allowed to estimate values in the calculations.

Evaluation of the essay:
Based on the sum of points obtained in the assessment tasks 1-4 along with the fulfilment of the following conditions. The overall evaluation of A, B, C, D and E must satisfy the following conditions:
(a) achieve at least 11 points in total from task 1 and 2
(b) to achieve at least 10 points in task 3
(c) achieve at least 10 points in task 4
marking scheme:
A great 1 90-100
B very well 1 - 80-89
C Good 2 70-79
D Satisfactorily 2 - 60-69
E sufficiently 3 50-59
F unsatisfactory 4 0-49 or failure of any of the conditions (a), (b), (c)

Rating may be specified in the discussion. If the student disagrees with the result of classification B, C, D, E, may refuse classification, but it must do so immediately before closing classification by the teacher. In this case, it is classified degrees F and can work again in the next time period, if it has not run out three terms.
