Course detail

Technical Diagnostics II

FSI-XT2-KAcad. year: 2015/2016

The course continues Technical Diagnostics I course (XT1). Attention is focused on the other selected diagnostic methods with which the graduate of this study branch can meet in his technical practice. These are, for example, the following methods: diagnostics of heat amount, diagnostics of concentrations, vibrodiagnostics, sound diagnostics, radiography, tribodiagnostics, electrodiagnostics, remote machine diagnostics and multi-parametric diagnostics. Attention is concentrated on the existing measuring devices, measurement methods, and especially, on the assessment and evaluation of monitoring system conditions. The course is completed with the exercises where all topics are presented in the examples from the industrial practice. The results and conclusions are also discussed in the exercises.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

A student acquires comprehensive and complex knowledge of the diagnostics of technical systems which can apply in industrial mechanical/electrical engineering practice to solve different problems related to the aforementioned topics.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of mathematics and physics at a level of university study. Also, the knowledge of the aforementioned special field in a scope of the previous bachelor study as well as Technical Diagnostics I subject is expected.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The subject is completed by the credit and the examination. The prescribed requirements with which the students shall be familiarized at the beginning of the semester, i.e. compulsory participation in laboratories, elaborating and well-timed handover of all laboratory reports from all laboratory practices and at least the scoring of 13 from the laboratory reports submitted, must be met to achieve the credit. Each laboratory report can be assessed with the maximum scoring of 5, that is, the maximum scoring rate is 20 from the whole laboratory practice. The scoring is added to the total subject classification. The student’s active approach in the laboratory practice preparation and during the laboratory practice itself is also included as one criterion. The student’s knowledge may be tested by the lecturer in different ways, for example, in short tests or oral examinations. The examination is in a form of a written test which is scored. The maximum scoring is 80. The final scoring rate of the subject shall be summed of the laboratory scoring and the scoring of the written test, and the maximum scoring is 100. The subject is classified according to the ECTS classification scale.

Aims

The objective of the subject is to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge of the diagnostics of technical systems. The subject continues in Technical Diagnostics I.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The student attendance is checked in tutorials (presence and activity). The 100% participation in tutorials is required, and in case of absence, the student will be obliged to compensate, the alternative attendance will be specified by the lecturer.
