Studio M4

Creative studio work is the main and essential means of teaching architecture. It is based on the "learning by doing" method, i.e. gaining knowledge and skills by practical application. It consists in the dialogue of the teacher with the student over a project that is being developed. Thematically, it covers the six modules (M1-Urban architecture, M2 - Public buildings, M3- Architecture in the technical civilisation, M4- Architectural creation in historical environment, M5- Post-industrial city…, M7 - Architectural space - interior). The modules are defined for each academic year and are listed in the study program.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

By completing the studio program, the student deepens his or her method of architectural design work oriented on historical environment. The student should be prepared to manage with success the diploma thesis.

Prerequisites

Successful mastering of the subject requires the completion of the subjects taught in previous study, which put emphasis on the logic and hierarchy of indispensable information and experience needed for work of a creative architect.

Aims

The objective is to manage, under the leadership of the teacher, the subject matter of the assigned studio design, which usually derives from the profile of the studio. The student should prove his or her aibility to solve the partial phases of the design, including the preparatory phase of analysis and survey. In the final phase, he or she should dress the design's written and graphic parts using computer art. The design has to fulfil the criteria set by the teacher and be formally presentable.The student must be able to defend the suggested solution and prove preparedness for design activity.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Obligatory participation in critical discussions, submission of the design in due term.
