The history of graphic and industrial design and their formation after the World War II. The prototype of designer activities in traditional disciplines of handmade work and applied arts. The birth of the designer´s profession in the first period of the industrial revolution and its further transformations.

Credit conditions: passed written test based on explained topics, minimum result 80% .

Course curriculum

1. Definition of the subject "history of design" and its differen interpretations. Graphic and industrial design.
2. "Proto-design": historic formation of some aspects of design in pre-industrial era.
3. First industrial revolution, crisis of the concept of applied arts and the birth of the designer´s profession.
4. Invention of litography and birth of poster.
5.-6. Reform movement in the 2nd half of 19th century.
7.-9. Formation of art nouveau and its climax at the turn between the 19th and 20th century.
10. Alfons Mucha and art nouveau in the Czech lands.
11. Peter Behrens and the birth of Corporate Identity.
12. Early modernism.

2. "Proto-design": historické formování nikterých aspektu designu v poedprumyslové éoe.
3. První prúmyslová revoluce, krize koncepce užitého uminí a zrod profese designera.
4. Vynález litografie a zrod plakátu.
5. - 6. Reformní hnutí 2. poloviny 19. století.
7. - 9.Formování secese a její zenit v období poelomu 19. a 20. století.
