Spanish for Beginners

This new communicative course - Spanish for Beginners - will offer practising pronunciation,basic grammar,conversation in everyday situations,reading and listening.Original Spanish textbooks,audio- and videocourses will be used in classes.It is a two-semester course and can be followed by the course JS2.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student will get knowledge of basic Spanish grammar, he/she will be able to use basic vocabulary and communicate in Spanish in the past, present and future in everyday life.
The student will be able to understand simple written texts with use of dictionary.He/she will be able to react adequately to Spanish phrases.All these skills will be achieved through audio-visual programmes and role play in class.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

75% attendance and active participation at classes, fulfilment of given assignments.
Two semester tests ( one after the winter semestre, another after the summer semestre) form 40% of the course evaluation showing how students managed to use the learnt vocabulary, grammar and use of Spanish structures, each test is worth 20 points maximum and 10 points minimum.
The final examination has two parts: listening worth 30 points maximum and 15 points minimum
reading of two short Spanish texts with use of dictionaries, 30 points maximum and 15 points minimum


30% - reading - evaluates and asseses the abilities to work with a written text, abilities to analyze, synthetize, paraphrase, organize and reproduce information from the text
30% - listening - evaluates and asseses the abilities to understand spoken Spanish, abilities to analyze, synthetize, paraphrase, organize and reproduce information from the listening

Aims

The students will acquire knowledge of elementary Spanish and they will be able to have conversation in past, present and future tenses. They will able to communicate in shops, when travelling and in other everyday situations. This will be practised via audiovisual recordings or role play in class. The students will learn how to react to Spanish speakers.
