Subject deals about telecommunication and information system principles. It contents definition of HW solution and signaling systems from the standard telephone exchange to IP communication. The subject illustrates internal principles in switching systems including Operating and Maintenance system.

Students shall be acquired expanded knowledge about the modern structure of communication network and switching systems used for transmission of calling and technology of transmission information in them used.

The subject knowledge on the Bachelor's degree level is requested.

Techning methods include lectures laboratories and practical laboratories. Course is taking advantage of e-learning (Moodle) system.

Course curriculum

The generation of telecommunication networks and switching systems
Switching equipment - Subscriber unit
Switching equipment - Switching Network (SN), the structure of the switching network, Erlang equations.
Switching equipment - Queuing Theory, Kendall classification of QS (Queuing System).
Switching equipment - Design and optimization of switching network.
PSTN signaling (POTS signaling, DSS1, Q - sig., CAS, CAS-K, CAS R2, SS7).
VoIP signaling, convergence of PSTN and IP networks. (SIP/SS7 gateway, SIP/DSS1 getaway, SIGTRAN)
Examples of switching systems used in National telecommunication network (Siemens EWSD, Alcatel 1000 S12). Private Branch eXchanges (PBX).
Control equipments of switching systems.

Aims

The purposes of subject is acquaint students with modern switching and information types and perspective structure communication networks designated for transmission calling, data and picture and technology of transmission information in them used.
