Ecology in Electrotechnical Profession

The course deals with the sustainable development strategy, the basic laws of ecology, the environment of man. Furthermore, chemical and physical aspects of the environment - exposure and evaluation of noise, vibration, electrostatic, magnetic and electromagnetic fields, radioecology, light, heat. It explains the basic monitoring environmental parameters, architecture geographic information system. Features hygienic limits of physical fields. It discusses environmental audits and assessments of environmental impact, waste management and environmental legislation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student is able to:
- eplain the basic laws of ecology,
- list the marginal factor in ecology,
- list the parameters of the biological needs of human being and environment,
- describe the parameters of noise, vibration and ultrasound in the environment and describe their effects on humans,
- explain the formation of electrostatic and magnetic fields of the Earth,
- describe the interaction of electromagnetic fields and radiation with biological structures,
- interpret health limits physical fields in the environment,
- explain the principle of environmental audits and assessments of environmental impact,
- explain the principle of geographic information system,
- discuss the principles of waste management.

Prerequisites

Student who writes this article should be able to:
- explain the basic principles of physical fields,
- apply the basic principles and electrotechnical law,
- interpret the basic units of physical quantities,
- the basic principles of biology and physiology.
In general, knowledge is required on the secondary school level.

The student should have been able to : explicate the fundamental priciple of physical fields, explicate fundamental of physical chemistry, know fundamental principle and electrotechnic laws, interpretation the basic unit of physical quantities, know human biology and physiology essentials.
The subject knowledge on the secondaty school level is required.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. Teaching methods include lectures and practical laboratories. Course is taking advantage of e-learning systems.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Up to 40 points for lab - student gets points for 9 protocols and 1 thematic project,
up to 50 points for the written part of the exam,
up to 10 points for the oral exam.
To successfully pass exam is necessary to obtain the written at least 10 points.
Exam focuses on the verification of basic knowledge of the principles of ecology, the interaction of physical fields with biological structures including health limits, environmental audits.

2. Basic concepts and principles of ecology.
3. Human environment.
4. International Convention for the protection of the environment on Earth.
5. Environmental audits and environmental impact assessment.
6. Chemical aspects of the environment.
7. Physical aspects of the environment.
8. Monitoring the basic parameters of the environment.
9. Maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances and doses of physical fields.
10. Protection against the harmful effects of noise, electromagnetic fields, radiation.
11. Geographic information systems.
12. Law on waste applied in electrical plants.
13. Economic aspects of environmental projects.

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic information about the basic concepts and principles of ecology, the characteristics of the human environment, chemical and physical aspects of environment, monitoring of basic parameters of the environment, public health limits, geographic information systems, environmental audits and assessments of environmental impact, waste management.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation:
Laboratory is compulsory, correctly excused absences laboratory exercises can be in agreement with the substitute teacher.
