The course is focused on characteristic features of business professional communication at B1 level. It provides students with the relevant specialist language and professional communication skills they will need in the workplace.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course is intended to deepen the student’s language skills necessary for professional communication using relevant vocabulary. It will familiarise the students with basic economic terminology and enable them to understand professional economic texts.

Prerequisites

Good knowledge of general language at pre-intermediate level as minimum. Knowledge of professional language structures and vocabulary corresponding to the course studied in the winter semester.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course it taught by means of language lessons focused on practicing language skills and developing vocabulary. It includes also individual work of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

75% attendance and active participation at classes, fulfilment of given assignments.
A semester test (max. 40 points, min. 24 pts, the test may be repeated only once).
An examination: listening (max. 30 pts, min. 15 pts), reading (max. 30 pts, min. 15pts).

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with language skills used in professional communication (reading, listening, speaking, writing), and provide them with basic terminology and specific structures of professional language.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students’ participation and their work in the exercises are systematically controlled. Absence may be compensated for by the agreement with the teacher.
