Construction of Process Equipment II

FSI-KKRAcad. year: 2016/2017

The safe and economical design of process equipment needs the first-quality static calculation of strains and stresses for operational conditions Students will learn to use basic calculation methods from static shells branch. They will further get acquanted with european standards and frequently used ASME rules. The course is concerned not only with aparatus design, but also with connected piping lines and steel strukture. During the seminars students will carry out calculations according to both standards and will learn to use Sant‘ Ambrogio software, which is often used for these purposes in practice.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course provides students with an overview of rules and softwares for construction of equipment, piping lines and metal structures. Students will be able to solve individually basic computational assignments and to judge the adequacy of the design. Student will learn to use Sant’Ambrogion software for equipment calculation.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge from elasticity and strength of structures, mechanics and theory of materials.

Co-requisites

Aims

The safe and economical design of process equipment needs the first-quality static calculation of strains and stresses for operational conditions. The course objective is to make students familiar with basic analytical method for shell analyses, such as a membrane theory, semi-bending theory, boundary effect theory, theory of rings, stability problems of shells. These theories are trained on examples.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Active attendance at seminars is checked. The written report has to be done when training was missed. This report has to be produced for verification.
