Studio III - Multimedia - summer

The core studio course - Multimedia - covers the new media disciplines and represents that form of fine art which use the artist's own body, photography, video, computers, or other electronic or analog media for the recording, transfer, storage, and mediation of images and sounds. The course includes the forms of performance, object art, virtual or physical installation - all focusing directly on the creative act which is an interdisciplinary expression in time and space. Students develop experience from practical courses and connect it with their theoretical knowledge of technologies. The are given individual tasks which they fulfill according to their individual capacities.
Students will gain general knowledge in the divrse field of new media art; they will get to know selected technological, philosophical, and aesthetic problems of multimedia art practice and theory.
Under the head teacher's tuition, students will learn to interconnect the acquired experience and knowledge , they cooperate on givben tasks and explore the possible solution variants. They embody their theoretical knowledge into the practical tasks.
This course focuses on complex systems and interactivity in 20th century> concepts, artists, artworks; students will be assigned their own project of interactive installation.

Course curriculum

FIGURE IN MOTION
a) Complex systems and interactivity in the 20th century art.
b) Motion/movement - locomotion, manipulation, communication - meaning, translation from code to code, expression/message/interpretation.
c) Language of picture - record of gesture, sign, action painting (picture of speech - script as stabilized interpretation of gesticulation, visual poetry, typography, graphology, signs, symbols, calligraphy.
d) Gesture, dance, performance/show, game/play, simulation, animation.

Aims

To master the technology of the studied subject.
To elaborate basic exercises in the studied subject.
(Movie) camera - digital recording, live transmission, multichannel video
Editing - digital processing of picture, superimposing, hyperstructures
Scene - light - projection, lasers, optical aids, sound - records, microphones, dubbing, mix, effects, music, text - voice, singing, script, typography

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
