Machining Technology

The course deals with the following topics: Fundamentals of machining. Dimensioning and tolerances. Physics of machining. Cutting forces, heat and temperature of cutting. Cutting materials. Productivity and economy of machining. Wear of cutting tools. Main groups of machines and technologies. Technology of turning, drilling and milling. Shaping, grinding, honing and reaming. Non-conventional methods of machining (EDM, laser, plasma assisted machining, ultrasonic, water jet). Gear production. CNC machining. Tolerance and dimension chains. Selective assembly.

The course contains lectures that explain basic principles, problems and methodology of the discipline, and exercises that promote the practical knowledge of the subject presented in the lectures.

4. Physics of machining – cut formation
5. Cutting materials – steel, sintered carbides, ceramics, diamond, etc.
6. Force analysis, heat energy, residual state of stress and the other side effects of a cutting process
7. Fundamentals of technology of turning – outside and inside face
8. Fundamentals of technology of milling – plain, form, plunge milling, etc.
9. Grinding, honing, roughening, reaming .
10. Finishing methods of machining, non-conventional methods of machining
11. Productivity and economy of machining
12. Special methods of machining – HSM/HSC
13. Fundamentals of technology and assembly process control, routing
