Russian for Beginners

The course is for complete beginners in Russian.
The material is based on developing the communicative competence,especially in listening comprehension and effective reading and writing skills.
Within the course students are also informed about the country,its culture,customs and specifications.
Practising the new material and developing communicative skills is emphasized.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student
-will master the writing system of Russian language:
-will apply the knowledge to be able to read and write in Cyrillic.
-will response adequately to heard and written information.
-will master basic grammar structures and their applying in speaking and writing activities.
-will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in common everyday situations.

The course is for beginners and false beginners.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit for 1st semester,test and examination at the end of 2nd semester.
Credit is aquired by passing the test based on material in textbook lessons 1 - 12 - 40p.
Examination consists of 1 written test based on material in textbook lessons 13 - 21 - 20p.
2 listening comprehension - 20p.
3 reading comprehension - 20p.

Lesson 1-12
1.introduction to Russian,first steps with the Cyrillic and pronunciation
2.Practising writing skills in Cyrillic and pronunciation,basic language structures
3.Further practising of basic patterns in speaking
4.Greetings,basic numerals,specifications of stress
5.Meeting and introducing,intonation of questions and affirmative sentences
6.Telephoning,making a date,specifications of forms of address
7.Giving personal information,verb conjugation in present tense,forming negative with verbs
8.Making an invitation,thanking,apologizing; further numerals and the case of nouns coming after numerals
9.Expressing of enjoyment and wonder;female gender nouns,personal pronouns
10.Explaining misunderstandings;future tense,further numerals
11.More personal information;possessive adjectives,shifting stress with verbs
12.Changing intonation according to the meaning of the sentence;verb conjugation
13.Semester test
Lesson 13-21
1.invitation(accepting and rejecting);I and II verb conjugation
2.Giving information about spending leisure time;conjugation of reflexive verbs
3.Weekly programme;verb conjugation
4.Going to the theatre and cinema(invitation); ordinal numbers
5.Expressing personal impressions;saying the date,pronoun declension
6.Address writing,answering to advertisement; intonation of various types of questions
7.Enrolling to language course,finding the way round the building;past tense;the polite form of addressing people
8.Asking and giving answers about study;pronoun and noun declension
9.Asking the way and giving directions,means of transport;gender of nouns
10.Going shopping;verb conjugation,pronunciation of preposition patterns
11.Expressing possibility,impossibility and prohibition,cause and comparison,nouns which do not declinate
12.Expressing enjoyment and regret,travelling impressions;intonation of complex sentences.
