Course detail

Process Machinery and Equipment

ÚSI-2CDSZAcad. year: 2017/2018

The course deals with the basics of procedural techniques from the theory of their function, basic design approach for their design and implementation, and last but not least, as a source of emergency situations and accidents. The topics of discussion are mainly systems for transport and storage media (piping systems, pressure vessels, tanks ...), problems of reaction engineering, process powder materials (raw materials extraction, milling and sorting, storage, transport ...). Particular attention is paid to single European Community standards for the construction of process equipment, pricing optimization product, as well as marketing aspects of production. An important part of the course is to care about the safety of the proposed facility in terms of environmental protection, their safety against a possible violation and the subsequent outpouring of hazardous substances into the environment.
In laboratory exercises, students will learn the basic processes and modelling of key process variables.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students undergoing this course will gain insight on the issues of production processes in the multi-layered context moving between function, design, implementation, cost and risk of essential procedural knots used in chemical industry, food industry, processing of raw materials and many other areas.
In laboratory exercises, students are introduced to capture the current basic process parameters and their interpretation in the design and control processes.

Prerequisites

Basic courses of mathematics, physics and chemistry.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Continuous random testing in the lectures, assessment protocols of practical exercises and a final oral exam, which will be evaluated as the level of basic knowledge of the topics discussed and the student's ability to interconnect issues in terms of process building, technological function, investment and operating costs and risks of malfunction and accidents.
