Diploma Thesis Seminar

The course is aimed at acquiring knowledge and skills in written expression - training, which should result in the writing of the thesis. The essential idea of course is not only to deepen the knowledge of students in search of information resources, literature, information retrieval, accuracy of quotations, but also to plan the whole process of thesis and to familiarize them with the key principles of its form and content levels. To acquaint them with the latest knowledge of methodology and theory in the area of the thesis and learn the principles of effective presentation and defence expert's opinion. Diploma seminar will focus on risk engineering. Student will be able to draw Diploma Project, which comprehensively identifies and critically analyzes the risks, implement, and evaluate action taken in enterprises and institutions.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be able to:
- design project of their diploma thesis, including schedule of Diploma Thesis processing
- characterize key problem, set down aims, methods and way of processing
- elaborate the newest theoretical knowledge regarding the key problem according to domestic and international sources
- realize critical analysis of current situation, eventually own research

Prerequisites

Students choose the area of interest (topic) and the advisor of their diploma thesis. Prerequisite of the subject are professional knowledge obtaining during the study and their application for the real problems solving.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through seminars that particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Knowledge and skills will be evaluated continuously by the following results:
Balances in% according to the importance of each task:
1) Create a thesis project, including schedule 10%
2) problem definition, objectives, and methods of solving 15%
3) Research domestic and foreign resources to the issue 25%
4) Critical analysis of the current situation, or plan your own research 50%

6. Formalities professional written work
7. Search resources and information processing
8. rules of citation
9. Formal requirements of the thesis and the most common errors
10. Model structure of the thesis, the definition of objectives, content, methods and determination procedure diploma work
11. Order of presentation
12. Tactics defending their own opinions
13 Presentation of the results of their own work and advocacy own opinion
