Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students get points from computer labs, individual homeworks, and tests. For the accreditation, it is necessary to actively participate in at least 75 % of computer labs and, at the same time, get at least 50 points.

Plagiarsm as well as non-permitted cooperation within computer labs and homeworks or cheating during tests will cause that involved students are not classified and disciplinary action may be initiated.

    Aims

    This course introduces students into principles of IBM zSeries servers and their maintenance. Students will learn general principles as well as exercise monitoring and maintaining of common applications running on zSeries servers.

    Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

    No attadance on lectures is monitored. Attendance in computer labs is recorded. Dutiful attendance in at least 75 % of computer labs is necessary for accreditation.

    Syllabus

    1. Představení zSeries serverů, jejich využití a správa, operační systémy provozované na zSeries
    2. zSeries HW: HW historie, typy zSeries procesorů, zStorage modely, prezentace nejnovější verze zSeries procesoru
    3. zOS SW: základní panely pro správu zSeries - TSO a ISPF, zabezpečení - RACF, základní příkazy operačního systému
    4. zSeries management dat: zSeries datasety, hierarchie dat, Storage Management Subsystem - rutiny pro správu dat
    5. JES - Job Entry Subsystem, SDSF - System Display and Search Facility, JCL - Job Control Language, JCL programy
    6. zSeries transakční SW - CICS
    7. HW availability: Sysplex, GDPS - Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex, Coupling facility, Logger
    8. zSeries databázové systémy - DB2, IMS
    9. Využití programovacích jazyků pod zOS: REXX, assembler, C++, COBOL
    10. Administrace zSeries: práce s monitorovacími nástroji a SW pro analýzu dat na zOS, SW pro ladění výkonu - RMF, WLM.
    11. IPL (initial program load): bootovací sekvence zOS, Hardware management konsole, LPAR - logical partitioning, zVM emulační SW a jeho využití
    12. Workshop v IBM
    13. Shrnutí a otevřená diskuze o dalším využití zSeries pro zVM či zLinux operační systémy, využití zSeries serverů v následujících letech

    1. Logování na systém, uživatelské profily, základní nastavení uživatelského rozhraní
    2. Základní navigace v ISPF a zjišťování parametrů systému
    3. Práce s TSO a ISPF, vytvoření jobu, použití JCL utilit
    4. Práce v SDSF a zOS UNIX services
    5. Práce s datasety, JES a použití JES příkazů
    6. Demonstrace parametrů a nastavení transakčních serverů, transakce
    7. Definice sysplex, práce s XCF a data loggerem
    8. Demonstrace parametrů a nastavení databáze, DB2 utility
    9. Programovací jazyky - REXX a assembler
    10. System monitoring - práce se sysview, analýza zOS pomocí RMF a WLM
    11. IPL systému, zastavení a obnovení aplikací
    12. Workshop IBM
    13. Opakovací cvičení a demonstrace reálných zOS instalací
