Enterprise IT Midrange Platforms

• Modern Enterprise IT technical trends (general trends, virtualization, cloud solutions, security)

• Modern IT Data Centre – architecture overview, storage, networking, remote management
• Commonly used Database management systems, high level architecture, appliance, administration principles with hands-on experience
• Enterprise IT Operations – best practice IT process overview, governance models & run on daily IT services

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After finishing the subject students will be able to define and understand associated basic terminology, recognize key modern technology trends and applied business governance principles, have the opportunity to gain direct “hands–on” experience with Unix based OS system administration, practice on “real life” IT Environment governance scenarios.

Prerequisites

The specific prerequisites for this course are:
• A good understanding of spoken and written English – IT terminology
• Familiarity with connecting to host systems via terminal – advantage
• Familiarity with SQL - advantage

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures - twice per month for 90 minutes (in total 6 Lectures) at faculty of Business and Management, where theoretical content of the subject will be taught.
Exercises – every week for 90 minutes taught in IBM labs (in total 13 Exercises), focused on practical content of the subject.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

For graded assessment (klasifikovaný zápočet) is needed:
1. Mandatory active participation at exercises.
2. Successful passed examination (at least 60%).

Aims

Goal of course is to introduce key business principles & governance models applicable for Enterprise IT, modern IT technology trends and IT Service Operations in such environment to students. They will get familiar with basic principles of Unix based server operating systems and learn basic administration techniques of those. Course consist of theoretical lectures followed by practical exercise during lab sessions. Students will learn basics of Unix operating systems, commonly used SW and HW, middleware DBMS platform, networking, monitoring and performance tuning.

Participation in exercises is mandatory and at lectures is highly recommended.
