Building Constructions 2 (K)

FAST-BH012Acad. year: 2017/2018

Lectures are aimed on basic construction of buildings in relation to the principles of static and commonly used building materials such as methodological guidance on the concept of creating a composition design simple buildings. This is an expansion and deepening of basic information on building construction including principles for their application to the design of the works in the application of knowledge from previous studies related subjects.

Course curriculum

1. Foundations – setting of the building into the terrain, subsoil and ground works, shallow foundations, basements, damp proof courses and waterproofing, deep foundations.
2. Vertical load-bearing constructions – walls, masonry systems, building stability and structural strength, load-bearing walls from bricks and blocks, precast panel block buildings.
3. Masonry – strength, reinforced rims, precast and monolithic lintels, mounted walls from prefabricated panels, combined precast
and monolithic wall technology.
4. Horizontal load-bearing constructions – static stability and design rules, reinforced concrete floor structures completed in monolithic, prefabricated or combined technology, wooden floor structures.
5. Overhangs and recessive constructions - static scheme and design, cornices, balconies, loggia, bay windows, sun shadings, attics, recessive slabs.
6. Structural design of the single-story and multi-story buildings, stability and strength.
7. Skeleton systems – prefabricated, monolithic or combined technology, floor structures in skeleton buildings.
8. Staircase in skeleton systems, – variations, details of constructional joints.
9. Constructions for connection of different floor levels – static schemes and design rules for staircases, ramps, transport shafts, ladders, lifts and elevators.
10. Load-bearing structures of roofs – roof truss systems; wooden, reinforced concrete, steel trusses, static schemes.
11. Details of the roof truss, flat roof single leaf and double leaf roofs; flat roof compositions.
12. Vertical non-bearing constructions – partitions and external claddings – brick walls, monolithic or prefabricated walls, design rules and technology.
13. Completive constructions – windows, chimneys, banisters and railing, surface finishing, floor finishing, soffits – dilatation and movement joints, facing details.

Aims

The course is focused on the study concept of the project documentation completed on the basis of fundamental knowledge about building constructions. The design of the convenient load-bearing structural concept of a middle-sized building is the main task. The building is determined by the architectural disposition study and assignment of outdoor conditions of the building site. The study of the project in the stage of the documentation for the building planning permission is the compulsory work for the course examination.
