Survey of the history of the 20th-century architecture ranging from the situation before the First World War to the 1960s. Rivalry and blending of the modernism and the traditionalism, the contribution of each of them from the points of view of the period propaganda and the present time. The outstanding personalities in the world and in the Czech lands.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage the goal of the subject, i.e. knowledge of the history of architecture, the Neoclassicism and the Historism, the interwar Avant-Garde, the Czechoslovak Functionalism, the fifties and sixties, the postmodern architecture, the late 20th century architecture.

Prerequisites

The subject connects with the knowledge of the preceding periods of the history of architecture – the Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Early Modern Age, the 19th-century architecture and Early Modernism.
