Pre-Intermediate Level English (exam)

For this exam, four optional subjects are offered, in which students aquire the required knowledge and skills. The exam is based on the contents of the books Oxenden, C., Latham-Koenig, S., Seligson, P.: English File Elementary Third Edition - Student´s Book, Oxford University Press, 2012 and Oxenden, C., Latham-Koenig, S., Seligson, P.: English File Pre-Intermediate Third Edition - Student´s Book, Oxford University Press, 2012. The exam consists of two parts: the written part which tests the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, reading, writing and listening skills; and the oral part which tests the ability to speak shortly about a given topic and to react to questions.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The aim of this exam is for the students to show that their knowledge has reached such a level when they are able to make themselves understood (both orally and in written) in everyday situations.

Their knowledge should be on pre-intermediate level (A2+ according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Grammar and vocabulary covered in the English File Elementary Third Edition and Pre-intermediate textbooks.

Course curriculum

Optional subjects English Elementary 1, English Elementary 2, English Pre-Intermediate 1, English Pre-Intermediate 2 are offered by the Department of Languages, as well as lifelong learning programme subjects Bridging course 1 and Bridging course 2, which are all designed to help students revise and practise for the Pre-Intermediate Level English exam.

Aims

This exam corresponds to A2+ level according to CEFR.

It is tested whether students command the basic vocabulary from general English, basic grammar rules, whether they can communicate in everyday life situations.
