Studio II - Video - summer

During the summer semester of the second year there is the emphasis on further developing the technology. Through a wide range of exercises and workshops will the student's experience deepen meeting different types of moving images. Students will work alongside the formal aspects of the classic film materials such as editing, post-production or composition, learning also access to this media from different perspectives in an art school which is not primarily focused on teaching how to make film. Their outcomes are not limited to the medium of film or video. Based on individual preferences, students work with other media such as performance, installation, photography, etc.

Nowadays, ecology and environmental issues seem to be highly on the agenda of the arts. What are the current tendencies in media arts related to this?

Individual and artistic approach to the technologies of the studied subject.

Knowledge of basic technological and artistic principles of the studied subject.

beginners: critical thinking and an interest in contemporary art
advanced: do recycling of garbage at home and read some popular articles about ecology and environmentalism
professionals: relate their own disciplinary knowledge to new ways of perceiving the world today

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Analytical analysis of works and examples from the history of film and visual art related to the subject of study.
Interview in individual and group presentations of student works at studio meetings.

show critical awareness in the form of an original contribution to the discussion (as an assessment) mentioned above, in the form of a text, a talk or an art work

Course curriculum

Basics of media creation. "New media" - video, multimedia, performance - and their practical applications in fine arts. From picture to screen and back. Video vision - theoretic and practical models of electronic image. Camera - eye (Dziga Vertov) - camera editing for analog and digital videorecording. Digitalization and adjustment of videorecording, manipulation with videorecording - editing composition (application of relevant software for PC) - work with computer. Students are assigned several semester tasks which they can choose from, using the optimal technological procedure.
