Contemporary Czech and international art - seminar

The seminar is a follow-up to the Contemporary Czech and International Art course. During the seminar sessions, students will present papers and discuss the topics of their term essays.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will choose a topics on which they will write their term essay. They must be able to provide evidence of the ability to do a reseach in available information sources and describe, analyse, or interpret the chosen issue on the basis of these sources. Students must be able to choose and organize information and choose an adequate strategy for its presentation.

Prerequisites

Students must have a knowledge of 20th century art and have attended The Contemporary Czech and International Art 1 course.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Emphasis is placed on individual preparation of students before seminars (reading texts); during the seminars the discussion is steered so all students have the opportunity to engage in the discussion to deepen their understanding of the discussed text.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The credit is awarded for active participation in the seminars and the submission of the seminar paper.

Course curriculum

The seminars are based on students' presentation and a following discussion. During the semester, students will present the course of their research for the term essay. Current art events and exhibitions and their critical reflections are also discussed in the course. Some seminars are based on discussing selected texts that are related to the topics from the winter-term part of the course.

Aims

Students will get a deeper knowledge of the main tendencies in art after 1990. They must be able to work with available information sources and they will improve their academic skills.
