Learning outcomes of the course unit

Within the part Chemical kinetics the students obtain the basic knowledge on kinetics of elementary and complex reactions, on kinetics of homogeneously and heterogeneously catalyzed reactions and on factors, influencing the reaction rate. Within the part Colloidal chemistry students receive the information on fundamental physico-chemical properties of disperse colloidal systems, as well as on properties of surfaces. The obtained knowledge the students verify in the frame of calculations, which passing in the form of credit is the condition for the acceptance to the oral exam from the subject Physical Chemistry II. The performance of the exam is the base for the consecutive succesfull passing of futher subjects, namely Chemical engineering.

Prerequisites

Knowledge from selected chapters of Physics I., II. (state of matter, electrodynamics, optics). Basic knowledge of differentiation and integration

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week, seminars - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Attendance is obligatory and may be checked. Studying is checked by periodical written tests on seminars and active learning activities.
Seminar:
Average of results of periodical written tests (50 points at least); when lower than 50 summary test should be written and 50 points achieved at least.
Exam:
Combination of avergae from seminars (weight 30%) and results of exam (weight 70%). The exam has written and oral part. Written part - ten questions, answers marked by up to 10 points, limit to pass and for oral exam: 50 points. Failed oral part may be repeated without repeating written part.

Aims

The goal of the subject Physical chemistry I. is to provide the students with the rudiments of chemical kinetics and colloid chemistry in such a way, that the students are able to utilize them by the solution of problems in laboratory and industrial practice. Simultaneously, the obtained knowledge serves as a basis for the study of other subjects.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance is obligatory and may be checked. Studying is checked by periodical written tests on seminars and active learning activities.
