Learning outcomes of the course unit

Design of machine parts and mechanisms, computational verification of designed machine parts, drives and mechanisms and evaluation of their reliability for the desired technical life.

Prerequisites

It is assumed the students knowledge of design fundamentals, material science and solid mechanics from their previous study at FME BUT.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Final written test consists of 10 theoretical question (5 points per question) and 5 practical examples (10 points per example). Minimal number of points required for successful completion is 50 and maximal number of points is 100. Resulting classification is made according ECTS.

Aims

The aim of the course is to learn students how to construct machine parts, drives and mechanisms.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in lectures is recommended, attendance at seminars is compulsory - two absences are allowed. The lectures are based on the textbook Mechanical Engineering Design. This book is an essential source of information for the final test. The scaled preview of the lecture presentations will be available in on-line Moodle system.
