Course detail

Workshop - Spatial Design Studies

FSI-YZ2Acad. year: 2018/2019

The subject it deals with introduction to industrial design from the perspective of building volume in space. Practical workshops on general topics are an introduction to the work on individual assignments. 3D studies emphasize the relationships inside and outside 3D objects (importance of content and form, importance of proportional relationship, connection of the whole and detail), plaster, polystyrene sheets, clay, hard PVD and other materials are used for modelling.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The subject allows students developing knowledge needed for creation and analysis of 3D objects. Deepening the experience with basic techniques, equipment and habits for creating 3D studies from basic materials (clay, plaster, polystyrene sheets, hard PVC).

Prerequisites

Drawing of geometric bodies in perspective is a prerequisite. Experience with designing composition studies including 3D models and ability to work with basic materials (clay, plasticine). Orientation in art and design history is important.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit requirements: attendance in lessons, meeting assigned projects deadlines, oral presentation of projects.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on projects. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is F "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.
