Multimedia Transmission over IP Networks

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students are familiar with applications and protocols for video and voice transmission over IP networks. They are able to setup multipoint videoconference, oneway voice and video transmission in HD quality. They are able to connect and configure all communication components.

Prerequisites

  • Principles and application of Unix and Windows operating systems
  • Studying texts and documents in English
  • Network architecture - ISO/OSI model, TCP/IP
  • Unicast and multicast transmission

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

  • Home assignments (24 points).
  • Active participation in lab assignments (36 points).
  • Written test 1: videoconferences (20 points).
  • Written test 2: IP telephony (20 points).

Exam prerequisites:
  • 12 points from home assignments and 18 points from lab assignments is required for the credit.
  • Minimum points to get credits is 50.

Aims

The course aims to introduce students technologies for video and voice transmission over IP networks. Labs will be focused on configuration video and voice communication using dedicated hardware devices and software applications.
