International accouting standarts

The subject is focused on harmonization of accounting in the sense of International Financial Reporting Standards application. The subject deals with the Conceptual framework, respective standards and interpretations of the IFRS and with preparation of financial statements in accordance with the International Financial Reporting Standards.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The course ends with the exam in the form of written assignments. In total, there are 70 points allocated to such assignments, the mark depends on the correctness of the answers (0 – 70 points). The overall marking of the exam is the sum of points obtained by students both from the final written assignments and results of the credit assignments (credit assignments are marked on the scale 0 – 30 points) .
The exam grading is identical with the ECTS scale.

Credits:
1) credit assignment focused on the selected issues in transformation of the financial statements compiled in accordance with the Czech GAAP into financial statements prepared in accordance with the IFRS (0 - 15 points);
2) written multiple-choice test – the test contains both theoretical questions and practical cases requiring selection and appropriate application of the accounting policy (0 - 15 points).
Written exam: consists from the final assignments in the form of short case studies focused on the use of appropriate method for solving the presented problems and their reflection in the preparation of the financial statements (0 – 70 points).
Attendance on seminars is not compulsory but is controlled.

Aims

The aim of the course is to learn the students work with the IFRS - that is, with such an accounting system, wich is based on general principles rather than on detailed rules. After completion of the course, the students would be able to select an apply an accounting policy necessary for a faithfull presentation of the impact of transactions, events and other conditions relate to an enterprise. In addition, they should be familiar with the requriments for measurement of assets and liabilities (including the use of estimates in such processes) and be able to complie financial statements in accordance with the standards and interpretations commonly known as IFRS.
Students will gain the knowledge and skills in preparation of financial statements under the International Financial Reporting Standards and in transformation of the financial statements prepared in accordance with the Czech accounting law into the financial statements under IFRS.
