Master's State Examination Seminar 1

FaVU-CPZZ-IAcad. year: 2019/2020

The first of three seminars serving students as a support in preparing for the theoretical part of the Master's State Final Exam. The content of this seminar is based on the recommended study literature on the thematic areas of the final state examinations no. 1 to no. 10. At the beginning of the semester, thematic areas are divided among the students. There will be two student presentations in each seminar – each will introduce one selected text.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will get acquainted with the selected study literature in more detail, and they will gain the basis for individual preparation for the final state examination. Those presenting in a seminar will strengthen their competences in the field of research and the subsequent structuring of information into a time-limited presentation and gain more confidence in the presentation. Others will strengthen their skills in working with literature.

Prerequisites

Good knowledge of history of modern and contemporary art; critical reading skills.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

This course is based on an active learning method in which students depart from the passive role of content recipients. Teachers' role is coordinating (assignment tasks), but of course also tuition – s/he corrects potential deficiencies in presentations, and in short, controlled discussions at the end of the presentations, students are directed to other appropriate sources of information.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The credit is awarded on the basis of attendance (80 %]. Another requirement for the credit is either a presentation at a seminar or a written summary of one selected text from the state exam circuits discussed in the given semester.

5. Representations of body in the art of the 2nd half of the 20th century.
6. Postmodernism in thinking and in art.
7. Art beyond the gallery walls.
8. Art as institution.
9. Curating and the gallery business.
10. Installation as an artistic strategy / installation as medium.

The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with selected texts of recommended literature, which serve as study support in the preparation for state final examination.
