Supply Management

Students will be made familiar with:
Material requirements planning system of production process; normative basis for consumption calculation. Order processing. Purchasing strategy for markets. Inventory management – inventory technologies base methods. Inventory sorting with Pareto analysis. Warehouse systems. Goods identification. Order processing and packing.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be able to analyse and sort structure of inventory. Beside students will be able to make strategic decision in the field of warehouse projecting; warehouse technology and question how to effective manage material flows. The application of prediction tools and techniques of inventory both inventory management in practise is emphasized.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to have the following knowledge and skills when they begin the course – Logistics, Mathematics and Statistics. The course develops all completed knowledge from economy; technical science; informatics, logistics and production management (or operation management).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
Lectures will be conducted with the use of educational technology.
Seminars will be realized in modern integrated laboratory of management of production processes (LAPROCO).
Excursion, tours or trips in non-education institutions is organized for acquaint with practical methods of work in the selected areas of logistics.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The evaluation of the course is based on the systematic, continuous work of the students during whole semester.
The course assessment is based on semester project solution, case study solution, selected topics solution in seminars/lectures, excursions or external lectures attending and written exam. Scoring of each component is following: semester projects solution (maximum 30 points/project); semester project defence (maximum 10 points); case study solution (maximum 10 points/case study); selected topics solution in seminars/lectures (maximum 5 points); attending additional activities maximum 4 (additional activities will be included during the semester, additional acitivites are expecially external lectures or excursion 5 points/lecture or excursion, which can be used for obtaining additional points to pass minimum points requirements.); written exam (maximum 50 points).
Students team have to hand over a written semestral project solution via e-learning by the end of 6th week of the semester in the form "teamleadersurname.docx" (or "teamleadersurname.doc"). Semester project(s) evaluation is based on weight of following factors i. e. scope and difficulty (20 %); selected solution approach, quality and content (40 %); formal form, graphic form, correct references usage inc. compliance with the requried scope (20 %) and critical perspective and thinking (20 %). On the other side late project submission is penalized by -20 %. Final semestral project defence is planned for two last weeks of semester. The semester project defence evaluate both practical knowledge (40 %) of solved problem (40 %) and knowledge of theoretical background (20 %). Whole team is evaluated.
Case study evaluation is based on weight of following factors i. e. theoretical knowledge and understanding (40 %); solution approach and quality (40 %); formal and graphic form, (20 %). On the other side late case study submission is penalized by -20 %.
Conditions for awarding the course – unit credit: fulfilling the assignments and submitting solution(s) in required time, content and form including presentation of results. Course-unit credit is given under successful fulfilling the conditions of min. 25 points. At least 15 points have to be from semester project(s) solution and case studie solution has to be evaluated also 5 points.
The exam has a written form. The written form of exam contains example and tests student's ability to understand of knowledge of inventory management. The written exam contains also set of open and close questions, which focus on practical understanding and application of inventory management.
The total classification is based on Consolidated versionof the study and examination rules of BUT, Article 14 Grading scale: Grade A (excellent) 100 to 90 points; B (very good) 89 to 80 points; C (good) 79 to 70 points; D (satifactory) 69 to 60 points; E (sufficient) 59 to 50 points; F (failed) 49 to 0 points.

Aims

System approach how to understand of inventory management is a key activity of each company. The objective of the course is to provide students with the necessary supply management function of enterprise; economy and strategy point of view of inventory management in present global environment.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance is checked by the tutor. Also controlled is a partial solution of the semestral project solution during the semester.
