The course focuses in detail on the description of modern compression algorithms and methods used in image and video processing, description of security of multimedia content by means of watermarking techniques, description of principles of multimedia data transmission in IP networks, and description of the principles of indexing and retrieval in large multimedia databases.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students will acquire the knowledge of advanced methods of multimedia digital signal processing and methods of their delivery in heterogenous network environments, video signal compression, image transforms and multimedia databases.

Prerequisites

Knowledge on the Bachelor degree level and basic knowledge of image/video compression are required. Basic JAVA programming language knowledge is required.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Techning methods include lectures and computer laboratories. Course is taking advantage of e-learning (Moodle) system. Students have to write two projects/assignments during the course.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Evaluation of study results follows the Rules for Studies and Examinations of BUT and the Dean's Regulation complementing the Rules for Studies and Examinations of BUT. Up to 20 points are given for laboratory work. Up to 20 points are given for work on projects. Up to 60 points are awarded for the final examination.

Aims

The aim of the course is to give students enough information to orient themselves in the field of image and video processing, security, transmission of multimedia data in IP networks, indexing and retrieval of multimedia data in multimedia databases.

The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.
