Course Metallic materials extends and deepens theoretical knowledge about metals and their alloys in internal structures of metals including disorders of the internal structures, thermodynamics of metals and metallic systems, heat treatment, metal alloys, physical, mechanical and chemical properties of metals and basic methods of evaluation of the properties of metals.

The course uses teaching methods in form of individual consultation. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Course curriculum

Course Metallic materials extends and deepens theoretical knowledge about metals and their alloys in internal structures of metals including disorders of the internal structures, thermodynamics of metals and metallic systems, heat treatment, metal alloys, physical, mechanical and chemical properties of metals and basic methods of evaluation of the properties of metals.

Construction of metals and their alloys, failure of metal structure.
Thermodynamics of metallic systems (phase diagrams, nucleation, crystallization).
Metal reinforcing and relaxation.
Basic mechanical properties of metallic materials, characteristics of elasticity, plasticity, strength, toughness. Experimental method of determining basic mechanical characteristics.
Physical properties of metals, focusing on the thermal and electrical conductivity and magnetic properties of metallic materials, evaluation of physical properties of metals.
Chemical properties of metals - corrosion resistance and electrochemical properties of metals, assessments of corrosion properties of metals.

Course objective is extend and deepen knowledge on the structure of metals and their alloys, bulk and surface properties of metallic materials, and scientific work in the evaluation of properties of metallic materials.
