Psychology in Business

The course focuses on psychological and sociological aspects in business and marketing. It introduces the basics and the use of psychology in working with people, their perception, communication, their motivation and group leadership. It deals with basic aspects of perception, communication, influences the work environment, motivation and all other factors positively and negatively affect job performance.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Having participated on the subject, students will gain knowledge of applied psychology and sociology usable in bussiness and marketing.
The main orientation of the knowledge gained is focused on:
personal management
soft skills and understanding of the role of personality in bussiness and marketing, evaluation and management of enterprisess
Social groups, social dynamics, group leadership, sociogram analysis
Enterprise economics achievements and its social determination
Gender problematics, Senior employment problematics and how to solve it
Social communication in the organisation, its efectivity, misunderstandings and personal related problems
Workload problems and hardships, work effectivity, stress and its elimination

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures that consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions.

Course curriculum

1. General Introduction. The importance of psychology and sociology in bussiness and marketing. The emergence and development of psychology as a science. Scientific methods in sociology used. General orientation in psychological disciplines.
2. Methods of detection and usage of psychological and sociological knowledge and its application in business and marketing.
3. Personality and the importance of personality traits in business. SWOT analysis.
4. People in social space, social behaviour, social interactions and their importance in a bussiness environment.
5. Social groups and their dynamics. Working groups and teams.
6. Communication, communication within the organization. Basic communication strategies and their application in business practice.
7. Basic communication skills and their usage: assertiveness, transactional analysis
8. Psychology of activities, human behaviour motivation. Effective cooperation with others.
9. People in the organization, organizational behaviour.
10. Conflicts and their solutions.
11. Stress and motivating factors at work.
12. Personal career and personal potential.
13. Quality of life, entrepreneurial way of life from the perspective of the broader social context, workaholism.
