Student will obtain orientation and basic skills that will apply in subsequent follow-up seminars and the implementation of semester work and diploma thesis in particular.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through seminars that particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course is concluded by a credit; the attendance at seminars cannot be less than 85% (for full-time study); the credit is granted by the teacher teaching this subject, only.

Course curriculum

The course is designed as an input module for independent creative work of students on semestral work and diploma thesis.
• Organization of teaching, seminar objectives, requirements.
• Methodology of creative and scientific work.
• Information resources and their use.
• Ethical aspects of research
• Presentation of research results.
• Suggestions for selecting the topic of the thesis, areas of expertise.

Aims

Students will learn the basic steps (procedures) necessary for the implementation of professional work as a semestral work, thesis or their own publishing activities. After attending the seminar, students will obtain basic knowledge in respect of copyright ethics (links, citing sources, etc.) and the quality of academic research and professional work.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Block teaching – teaching is divided in monthly cycles, approximately every 5th week in a semester. Consultations are conducted during or after a teaching block. Learning materials are available on the subject’s website.
