Design and Economy

The course is focused on calculating, developing and designing thermal power stations and their parts(steam and gas turbines, steam boilers) central heating systems, fuel systems and nuclear power stations.
Economy:leasing, net present value,cash flow,internal rate of return.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course provides students with knowledge and skills necessary to work out the documentation in power engineering including optimal thermal and economic calculations.

Knowledge of energy sources, steam turbines and boilers

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded credit requirements: active participation in the exercises and delivery of a project for the given topic in a given term. Examination: written part consists of questions and examples, oral part in a form of discussion about a given topic.

Aims

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with problems of designing thermal power stations, their important nods, as well as with economic aspects of the design.
