Design and Operation of Fluid Machines

Hydraulic power plants design - the basics of the water power is presented as to range, scope, technologies, structure, operation, control, measurements and economy of the plants.
Municipal Wateworks and Sewage Works design - the basics of the waterworks and the municipal waste water treatment plants is presented as to range, scope, technologies, structure, operation, control, measurements and economy.

Knowledge of theory, simulation methods, of the basic approach to design, technology and operation of the hydraulic power plants, waterworks and municipal waste water plants

Prerequisites

Knowledge, during the previous courses of Hydromechanics and Pipe engineering obtained, is the pre-requisite

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Seminars and written tasks on the excercises. Course-unit credit requirements, way and rules of examinations and the final classification of the course. Credit and Examination (oral exam)

Syllabus

Hydraulic power plants design (Mr. Haluza) :
1.Categories and layout of the HEPP(Hydro Electric Water Plant).
2.Flow in penstocks,consumption curves.A curves of flow and head persisting. The design of
turbines with characteristic exploitation.The penstock design.
3.Design of surge chambers. The safety protection of penstocks.
4.The safety equipment of HEPP (screens,baffles,gate openings).Operational and safety valves.
5.Broth design, dimensioning.Water jump coomputation.
6.The main dimensions of machine room of HEPP.

Municipal Wateworks and Sewage Works design (Mr.Štigler) :
7.Preliminary, literature, range and scope of the subject. History and future. Enviromental control. Aerobic and anaerobic process.
8.Water pollution and its markers. Water as a raw and pruduct. Structure of the typical waterwork an sewage work
9.The hydraulic principle of the processes. Waterhammer and the anti-surge protenction.
10.Physical, chemical and biochemical technologies. Input of the raw and vaste water, output of the processed water.
11.Dewatering of the sludge. Sewage gas.

13.Control and measurement. Design, construction, operation. Samples of the works.
