Course detail

Analytical Methods in Praxis

FCH-BC_AMPAcad. year: 2020/2021

The content of the course consists of the following thematic blocks: Basic principles of sampling. Procedures for processing the collected sample: methods of isolation of analytes from the matrix (gas, liquid, solid phase), sample cleaning procedures (destructive, non-destructive), group separation techniques. Application possibilities of instrumental methods used for final determination: UV-VIS spectrophotometers, separation methods (gas and liquid chromatography, electromigration methods), mass spectrometry. Mobile analyzers and on-line measurement systems.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Successful completion of the course will increase students knowledge, skills and competencies in the following areas:
1. Detailed knowledge of the complete analytical procedures used in routine analytical practice, consisting of an analytical sample collection, laboratory processing and the final analysis.
2. Ability to design an optimal procedure for the analysis of a contaminant (or group of contaminants) in the environmental compartment, taking into account the specific conditions of the solved problem.

Prerequisites

Knowledge from courses Common and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic chemistry, Physical chemistry, Analytical chemistry I, Analytical Chemistry II

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Student assessment takes the form of an oral examination in the range of themes discussed in the lectures. Assessed is the knowledge of the theoretical basis of the general analytical procedures and methods and student's ability of creative solution of discussed analytical problem.
