Urban Composition

The subject "Urban composition" resumes the preceding subjects covering along with urban structure development also the functional, operational and space relationships of the urban elements, and the urban structure. The subject deals with the urban structure composition at various measures leveles and is focused also on the interpretation and formation of the urban environment. Analysed are in detail the principles of spatial organisation and their applicability to the modern city. A part of classes and tutorials is devoted to the fundamentals of garden design and to the regulars of city greenary formation. The subject covers also the development problems of the settlemenets natural environment.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will learn the fundamentals and principles of urban spatial formation. They will also know and will be able to apply the principles of urban greenery formation. Knowledge and skills along with other information obtained in the related subjects of urban students can apply in the conducting process of multidisciplinary teams of experts in treating of urban studies and territorial documentation.

Prerequisites

The elementary knowledges of composition are desirabel. Knowledges of the history of architecture and urbanism, and the architectural and urban designing are also desirable. Students should have the creativ talent and space imagination.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The lessons are followd by practical exercises. Other concrete teaching methods will be precized by a teacher.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit shall be given in case of final study turn in, passing of exam work of appropriate quality and in given term. The exam is written and it is necessary to gain at least half of points. The second half of the subject evaluation consists of practical part evaluation.

- The settlement and its composition, compositions measures. The urban environment formation. Functional, operational and space relations.
- Principles and historical composition approaches, historical urban environment formation.
- Urban environment perceiving and assesment
- Urban composition I, principles of urban space organistaion
- Urban composition II, principles and application of space urban organistaion
- Urban compostion and environment (cities examples) I.
- Urban compostion and environment (cities examples) II.
- The pedestrian movement in the city
- Public spaces and their meaning
- The historical development of gardens in the cities
- The genesis and meaning of the city parks and greenary
- The application of the nature elements in the cities. Sustainable cities development.
- The landscape, landscape composition and landscape character

Aims

The goal is to teach students to perecive and work with the urban composition and teach them the principles of the creation of urban environment. They will be familiarized with the principles of designing the space and its applicability in today's city. The second part is focused on creating of a garden and natural urban environment. The course serves as a base for a studio creation and subsequent practice.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The continuous checking of practical papers is necessary. The final paper co-defines the subject evaluation.
