Contemporary Czech Architecture

Students are informed about current situation on home and foreign architectonic stage. Using significant examples of present architecture the analysis of solution concept is done, that shall help students to orientate in their own architectural work. Integral part is also familiarising with creation and approach to architecture by way of lectures given by external teachers from prominent architectonic studios as well as art historians, architectonic theoreticians and other specialist from this or related branches.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students should orientate themselves in the trends, directions and movements of contemporary architecture, have sufficient professional knowledge of architecture, and be able to make use of it in practice.

Prerequisites

Expected is the knowledge gained from individual study, internet, monitoring of both Czech and foreign professional journals focussed on the given subject.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The exam is written, combined when retaking. Classification takes into account knowledge of the student and his orientation in problems.

Aims

Students should gain a general grasp of trends, directions, personalities and significant works of contemporary architecture, so as to be able to react to studio assignments and references on selected contemporary buildings. Orientation in this discipline should facilitate the students' communication with the teachers of studio subjects.
