1. Fundamentals of professional English: Summary of previous knowledge. Writing and presentation of professional work in English. 2. Fundamentals of professional English: Laws and standards. Introduction to English translations of Czech construction standards, ordinances and laws. Introduction of Czech translations of foreign standards and laws. Discussion about the origin of errors in translations. 3. 2. Fundamentals of professional English: Construction drawings. Basic terms: parts of drawings, types of drawings. Examples of Czech and English drawings. Discussion about the differences in drawing and descriptions (dimensions, units, level of detail). 4. Fundamentals of building typology: Architecture, morphology and typology. Introduction to English terminology appliable in Czech conditions: Basic shapes and types of buildings, names of architectural elements, structural systems, etc. Discussion about the differences between Czech and English architecture. 5. Fundamentals of building typology: Building layout. Introduction to English terminology describing the layout of residential buildings: description of individual rooms, description of building operation. Discussion about a typical Czech and British flat. Assignment of short presentations describing the appearance and layout of students' bachelor projects. 6. Presentations of students' bachelor projects and discussion. Principles of preparing a spoken (computer) presentation. Principles of preparing a short written presentation (abstract or annotation). 7. Building plot, public infrastructure, site surveys, layout and landscaping. 8. Building structures and construction materials: overview. Traditional and modern construction materials. Examples of extraction, processing and application of common construction materials (e.g. concrete, ceramics or sawn timber) 9. Building structures and construction materials: load-bearing structures (foundations, walls, floors, roofs), stairs, ramps, elevators and excalators. 10. Building structures and construction materials: non-bearing structures (doors, windows, flooring, carpentry, tinsmithing, etc. Assignment of bachelor project abstracts.
