Learning outcomes of the course unit

The goal of subject are knowledges from Spherical Astronomy, coordinate and time systems, time conversions and basic tasks and methods of Geodetic Astronomy.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of surveying with particular view of angular measurements, knowledge of plane and spherical trigonometry, Newton’s gravitational law, theory of free nutation.

1. Introduction in Space geodesy, its subdivision, the Solar system and surrounding Universe
2.-3. Spherical and rectangular coordinate systems, their mutual transformations
4. Orientation on celestial sphere, apparent diurnal motion of stars
5. Time and time systems
6. Julian date and standard epochs, calendars
7. Precession-nutation motion of the Earth, precession of equator, ecliptic, polar motion
8. Variations in equatorial coordinates of stars, proper motion, parallax, aberration and atmospheric refraction of light
9. Mean and apparent places of stars, star catalogues, International celestial reference system
10. Geodetic Astronomy - basic tasks
11. Geodetic Astronomy - classical and modern instrumentation
12. Astro-geodetic vertical deflections and their importance
13. Very Long Baseline Interferometry

Introduction of Spherical Astronomy, coordinate systems, time counting and measurement, basic tasks and methods of Geodetic Astronomy, instruments of classical Geodetic Astronomy.
