Architecture of 21st Century 1

The ambition of this course is to familiarize the students with the Czech and international architecture of 21st century via lectures and excursions to selected buildings. Due to the objectives of the course and the overall variable form (excursions), the content of the course differs in each semester.
In the study programmes “Architecture and Urban Design” the course is part of the theoretical courses.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The lectures are accompanied by excursions to contemporary architecture – few day excursions to a particular European country and one-day excursions in CR. Selected excursions are not repeated in the following years.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Student evaluation is based on the submitted seminar paper.

  1. Lectures focusing on a selected trend, author, or complex of buildings
  2. Excursion to contemporary architecture in a selected European country
  3. Individual trips to selected buildings from contemporary authors

Aims

The aim of the course is to orientate students to the most important trends and authors of architecture in the 21st century.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students will participate in the excursions from which they will elaborate seminar papers on assigned topics (building etc.) and drawings.
