Monument Restoration

FAST-BGA017Acad. year: 2020/2021

The course acquaints with the basic issues of monument care, protection and restoration of monuments, historical ensembles, folk architecture, settlements and landscape. It describes changes of urban structures and species composition in historical time periods, used historical constructions, materials, colors and technologies. It explains the problems of the most common construction failures, necessary surveys and planning documentation. It acquaints with the development of monument care including methods used, legislation and international documents.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage the goal of the subject, i.e. knowledge of the monument restoration and renewal, architectonic heritage, development of the preservation of monuments, methods of the preservation of monuments, legislation of the protection of monuments, historical settlement protection.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of the history of art and architecture, knowledge of the principles of basic tectonic systems, building materials of traditional architecture and basic structures of building construction.
