Students who choose this course don’t need to possess any knowledge of electrochemistry, but the knowledge of topics of physical chemistry, relevant to electrochemistry (such as ions in solutions, thermodynamics), is of advantage.

Focus will be given on following electrochemical aspects and topics:
• Ionic conductors
• Electrode processes
• Electrode potentials
• Thermodynamics of electrochemical reactions
• Kinetics of electrochemical reactions
• Mass transfer via migration and diffusion
• Voltammetry and its applications
• Electrochemical impedance and its applications
• Photoelectrochemistry and its applications
• Industrial electrochemical processess (electrolysis, electrodeposition)
• Corrosion of metals
• Instruments in electrochemical laboratory

Aims

Students will foster in this course basic knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical processes that are operative in most important today´s electrochemical devices (batteries, solar cells, etc.). Knowledge of these processes is also important for own research and development of various materials, that are suitable for the use in these devices, and further also for the design of new concepts of these devices.
