Managerial communication

The main content of this subject is to gain relevant knowledge from the field of psychology and sociology which is necessary for effective company. Emphasis is put on interpersonal communication in the corporate environment and the ability to apply them in training activities in order to develop managerial skills corporate practice.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The main output will be a compendium of relevant interpersonal communication knowledge and skills development in order to gain ability to communicate effectively in a corporate environment.

KSA on the A level required.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

lectures, exercises: role playing, model situations, problem solving in a simulation management game

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for awarding the course-unit credit:
1) continuous fulfillment of tasks assigned during the simulation management game (10%)
2) written report focused on the teamwork and communication during the simulation game(30%)
3) team presentation summarizing the report from team work (20%)
4) Final Exam (individual): written test in e-learning (40%) - passed with at least 21 points

Course curriculum

The content of the course is aimed on gaining relevant knowledge of psychology and sociology necessary for effective business management. Emphasis is put on principles of interpersonal communication in the corporate environment and the ability to apply them through training tools in order to develop and strengthen managerial skills for application in business practice.
1. Introduction to the subject: the importance of interpersonal communication for the work of a manager. The concept of the subject, its basic topics and their connections. An overview of basic and recommended study literature. Determining the requirements for completing the course.
2. Definition of the process of interpersonal communication and the importance of communication competence for managerial practice. Process models of the communication process and their effective application in managerial practice.
3. Self-knowledge and getting to know the personality of other individuals as an effective tool for effective communication of the manager.
4. Regularities of social perception and their consequences for knowing oneself and others. Application of the laws of social perception in managerial practice.
5. Principles of effective verbal communication in managerial practice. Effective overcoming of barriers in verbal communication. Active listening as an integral part of effective communication. Effective nonverbal communication. Forms of nonverbal communication and their effective application in managerial practice.
6. Active listening as an integral part of effective communication.
7. Effective nonverbal communication. Forms of nonverbal communication and their effective application in managerial practice.
8. Specifics and principles of proper interview management. Principles of successful presentation and its practice. Principles of effective meeting management.
9. Stress and principles of its management in managerial practice.
10. Principles of effective communication in conflict situations.
11. Principles of effective crisis communication.
12. Effective communication in the international environment.
13. Final summary of the acquired knowledge and evaluation of the acquired skills and experience.
