Decontamination and Rehabilitation of Environment

FCH-MCO_DSZAcad. year: 2021/2022

Short- and longterm pollution of soil by anthropogenic activities - mining, agricultural acitivities, transport etc. Natural decontamination and detoxification. Survey of methods of purification, decontamination and remediation. Physical methods (evaporation, extraction, washing-out). Mechanical methods (removal of contamined layer), chemical, biochemical, biotechnological and microbiological remediation. Specific methods according to contaminants, objects, geological (including hydrogeological) and geographical conditions, equipment, work safety and environment protection.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will learn about the main sources of contamination of individual environmental compartments. They will know the major environmental contaminants. Students will learn about mechanisms of contamination of individual environmental compartments. Based on this knowledge, they will understand the methods and principles of each type of decontamination and will be able to suggest basic decontamination procedure and methods.
