Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the creation and update large-scale maps.

Prerequisites

Handling with total station and other geodetic instruments, coordinate computations and creation of graphical outputs in geodetic software, work with multidisciplinary software using geodetic aplications.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction, definition of basic concepts, terminology, maps (graphical, numerical, GIS), national map series, geodetic controls, reference systems, numbering of geodetic points.
2. Basic forms of terrain relief, ways representation of hypsography in large scale maps, interpolation and construction of contour lines.
3. Field sketch - creation, content, terms, used symbolics, sketch completing.
4. Methods for detailed mapping. Type tasks.
5. Geodetic instruments for detailed mapping, application of mathematical and physical corrections of measured quantities.
6. Computational processing of the measured data, methods of solution.
7.–8. Basic and thematic large scale maps – layout and labeling of map sheets, norms for creation, classification, content, methods of representation of contents. Digital technical maps, technical map of the village.
9. Large scale maps – map symbols, accuracy class, testing of the accuracy, graphical processing.
10. Use of GNSS, photogrammetry, mobile mapping and laser scanning for detailed mapping.
11. Digital models – DTM, DSM, DEM, visualizations, outputs.
12.–13. Recapitulation, consultation.

Height accuracy testing of map creation results by checking profile. 11.–13. Consultation, correction and completion of elaborates.
