The cycle of lecture presents the thematically arranged topics that are accompanied by visual material (photographs, drawings, reproductions of models and maquettes, written documents of the time).

The assessment is based on a written test; the minimum pass is 60 %.

1. Characteristics of the 19th century: periodisation of architecture, the importance of school centres; magazines, publications; history of fine art and its influence on architecture
2. Sacred architecture – town and countryside church; monasteries and their modifications
3. Public buildings 1 – architecture of administrative buildings, governmental and parliament buildings, courthouses
4. Public buildings 2 – architecture of schools; nursery, primary, and town schools, Realschulen, grammar schools, universities and campuses of apprentice schools
5. Public buildings 3 – social charity institutions; hospitals, psychiatric hospital and spa buildings
6. Public buildings 4 – culture and arts: theatres, museums, cinemas, galleries and picture galleries, lapidaries, exhibition centres, trade fair centres, and the grounds of the world and regional exhibition centres
7. Public buildings 5 – transportation structures: railways, train station buildings and metro
8. Residential buildings 1 – residential architecture: chateau and palace
9. Residential buildings 2 – town house and tenement building
10. Residential buildings 3 – house and villa
11. Industrial architecture of the 19th century – types of factories, production estates and their visual aspects
12. Sepulchral architecture and plastic art – tombstones and their types, cemeteries and their dispositions, tombs
13. Architecture of Czech and Moravian countryside in the 19th century: the influence of industrialisation and urbanisation on countryside structures

The course aims to provide the knowledge of architect´s work during the dynamic 19th century, i.e. between 1780-1914; to identify the characteristics of architectural works from this epoque in terms of typology, structure and materials.

Students must attend 80 % of the instruction.
In the case of a student's apology and with approval of the subject guarantor, personal attendance may be substituted with online attendance in the classes.
