Veterinary and phytosanitary service
Organization of veterinary administration, veterinary precaution at floods, serious industrial accidents, radiation accidents, diseases, zoonosis and terrorist toxin attacks. Human health protection from zoonosis (quarantine, veterinary sanitation, special veterinary precautions). Organization of phytosanitary administration. Precautions taken at high incidence of harmful organisms. Outer and inner quarantine. Extraordinary phytosanitary precautions.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students obtain information about activities realized by State veterinary service and Phytosanitary service, about their structures and competence in crisis situations like epizooties, epidemiologies resulting from zoonoses and epiphyties.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Evaluation based on the submission of a satisfactory written paper on selected topics and its power-point presentation.

Oral discussion of problems discussed at lectures.

Course curriculum

1-2. Introduction, history of the phytosanitary service, organisation structure, fundamental terminology and legislation concerning phytosanitary service
3-4. Type plan of crisis management - epiphytis, law about phytosanitary service and implementary legislation, precautions implemented at extensive occurrence of harmful organisms.
5-6. Competence of authorities of veterinary services, organization, structure, legislation concerning veterinary service and implementary legislation
7-8. Natural reservoirs of diseases, anthropozoonosis, representants of organisms misused for bioterrorism. Epidemiologic characteristics of diseases distinguishing epidemies resulting from biological weapons and natural invaders
9-10. Role of epidemiologists and epizootologists at bacteriological and toxin terrorist attacks. Veterinary service in prophylaxis of epizooties. Extraordinary veterinary precautions at epizooties.
11-12. Type plan of the crisis management at epidemic, epidemiologic prophylaxis and investigation, organization concerning in food surveillance

Obtaining of fundamental knowledge about the tasks, function and organization of State veterinary service and Phytosanitary service of the Czech Republic
