Instrumental and Structural Analysis

The students will be acquainted with theoretical fundamentals and application of methods of chemical, physical and structural analysis. The course also includes advanced separation and electromigration techniques, organic Mass Spectrometry with emphasis on tandem techniques, Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy, Thermogravimetry, Differential Thermal Analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, X-Ray Fluorescence, X-Ray Diffraction, Auger Electron Spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Electron Microscopy. The overview is completed with inorganic analysis techniques, such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, Emission and Fluorescence Spectrometry together with Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry and Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Written examination including all topics discussed. If more than 50% are obtained, an oral exam follows. The knowledge of principles of analytical methods including their particularities, and ability of creative solution of analytical problems are evaluated. Final evaluation corresponds to ECTS system.

Aims

The students will be informed about selected methods used for structural analysis, and advanced analytical technique designed to organic and inorganic chemical analysis. The fundamental characteristic of methods and their applications in solving specific analytical problems will be discussed.
