Instrumental Analysis for Medical Application

Within the course, students will be acquainted in detail with the instrumental techniques used in the field of medical applications. The focus will be on explanation the principle of individual methods and the synergistic effect of connecting complementary methods. Individual thematic blocks will be lectured by experts on the issue with emphasis on the practical aspects of the problem including the interpretation of typical data.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

By passing the course, students will gain fundamental practical knowledge on instrumental techniques relevant in the field of medical applications. Student will be familiarized with their principles, information value and possibilities of their combinations and interconnections

knowledge of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, organic and physical chemistry

The teaching is performed in form of oral lectures (2 hours per weak). E-learning system LMS Moodle is available to students as well as to pedagogues’.

2. Analysis of structure and function of proteins
3. Instrumental techniques in molecular biology
4. Study on biological activity of chemical compounds and materials
5. Spectroscopy and microspectroscopy
6. Fundaments of fluorescence spectroscopy
7. Advanced techniques in quality analysis
8. Thermal analysis and calorimetry
9. Analysis of morphology of particles, surfaces and cells
10. Analysis of colloid dispersions
11. Analysis of biomacromolecules
12. Material characterization on medical applications

Aims

The aim of the subject is to familiarize students with advanced instrumental techniques relevant in context of medical applications. The main attention will be paid on understanding the principle of individual techniques and the logic of combinations of complementary methods. Students will be acquainted with a typical work procedure for various issues and will also be explained in detail the information value of each technique, including the presentation and interpretation of results.
