Processing and Presentation of Technical Documentation

Principles of word processing in word processors according to standard CSN 01 6910: fonts, elements of technical texts, formal layout of paragraphs, pages and documents. Bibliographic citations and references in the text, according to ISO 690. More complex elements of technical texts: mathematical symbols and expressions, tables, graphs and visual documentation. Content requirements of technical documentation. Appropriate technical methods of text preparation and subsequent text processing. The preparation of bitmap images for presentations construction and architectural projects. Basic techniques for creating photorealistic assembly. Processing final stages of bulding model visualization in a raster graphics editor - image export from a 3D modeller, completing visualization in raster graphics editor. Presentation techniques, examples of bad and good presentations, non-verbal component of presentations. Photo and video editing, poster presentations, infographics, mind maps.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The practice-oriented course contains of text preparation principles and rules, working with mathematical expressions, tables, bibliography citations and other typical elements of professional texts.

Course variant for image processing: Students will learn how to edit raw photo images to achieve a proper technical quality. Also techniques for photorealistic assembly are presented. Students will learn the techniques of presentation, get acquainted with examples of good and bad presentations, with presentations in the form of a poster, infographics, mind maps.

Prerequisites

Basics of operation systems, especially file system. Text editor and principles of image processing.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures and practical exercises, work on individual projects, closing project presentations. Working in LMS Moodle.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students prepare design of a technical document on a chosen topic. Proper typography design and optimum processing method are evaluated. Successful completion of the course requires min. 60% achieved points from the maximum amount.

Course curriculum

♦ Font, font types and their properties, application possibilities. Plain text typography - special symbols and characters and their purpose and technical solutions in the document.
♦ Paragraph typesettin, paragraph parameters, types of paragraphs in the documents, technical solutions.
♦ The typesetting of the page - page layout, structure of the text, header and footer, footnotes, multicolumn typesetting.
♦ The document layout, composition of different page types, generation of document content and index.
♦ Mathematical symbols and expressions combined with text. Principles and processing of tabular material.
♦ Graphical representation of information - charts, graphs, diagrams and other visual accessories.
♦ Basic editing of bitmap images.
♦ Creating photomontages, geometric transformations in the image. Application of perspective.
♦ Completion of visualization model in a bitmap graphic editor. Example of rendered image export from CAD model into Photoshop, view settings and lighting model in CAD, rendering parameters, compliance with the source picture.
♦ Principles of research, scientific and professional work ethics, plagiarism.
♦ Introduction to presentation techniques, examples of bad and good presentations, analysis of nonverbal communication.
♦ Principles of correct presentation with examples - font size, color scheme, number of slides.
♦ Presentation in the form of a poster, infographics - layout, editing text and images.
♦ Introduction to the creation of mind maps and their use in presentation.

The course goal is a presentation of proper form and also efficiently technical text processing including image attachments -- namely bachelor thesis.
